These little creatures give us quite a buzz. We remember the sound irritation of that buzz for a long time, if not forever. Mosquito populations are on the rise, and climate change is the major reason why.
Longer warm seasons mean mosquitos have more time to hatch, feed, and reproduce.
Mild winters let more mosquitoes survive to spring.
Mosquitos like intense rain and erratic rainfall. Puddles, clogged gutters and even potted plants collect water - PERFECT BREEDING GROUNDS.
Pollinator friendly landscaping, mosquito repelling herbs and even bat boxes all help deter mosquitos.
There is a shifting map of mosquito-borne illness.
Diseases like West Nile virus, dengue, and chikungunya are spreading into new regions.
What can we do?
Elimanate standing water
Plant basil, lemon balm and lavender
Use homemade sprays.
Mosquitos aren't just a nuisance anymore, they are a climate indicator.
